5 Recycling Facts:

  • Currently less than 35% of households and less than 10% of businesses in the U.S. recycle. (EPA 2011)
  • Every three months, Americans throw enough aluminum in the landfills to build our nation's entire commercial air fleet
  • It requires 95% less energy and water to recycle a can than it does to create a can from virgin materials.
  • Making paper from recycled paper reduces the related contribution to air pollution 95%.
  • Recycling cardboard only takes 75% of the energy needed to make new cardboard.

Facts of why we want to help:

  • More than 1.1 million children in Florida don't have consistent access to enough nutritious food and are vulnerable to the potential long-term effects of food insecurity.
  • More than half, 1.57 Million of Florida school children, relied on free or reduced school lunches in 2012.
  • Many of these school children do not receive adequate food and nutrition over the weekend and vacation to be productive students when returning to school.
  • Each year, approximately 7.6 million animals enter animal shelters nationwide - and nearly 3 million don't make it out.
  • Animal shelters across the nation are forced to stretch their resources to the brink to accommodate an overwhelming population of homeless and at-risk animals.
